Only Biometrics Fee Required if Green Card Renewed at Age 14

For every permanent resident, maintaining the validity of their Green Card is crucial. A Green Card allows individuals to live and work in the United States indefinitely, but it must be renewed every 10 years.

When a child reaches age 14, specific benefits come into play. Even if the 14-year-old child's green card has not expired, parents and guardians should seriously consider renewing the card at age 14. (No more than 30 days before or 30 days after the 14th birthday), to save on costs.

Biometrics Fee Payment Only!

Green cards are renewed using Form I-90. The application can be filed online by creating a myUSCIS online account for the 14-year-old child or using a paper mail-in process. An online filing is strongly recommended because it is simpler, and you can follow the process much more easily. You can also correspond with USCIS through the online portal. Regardless of whether you use the online or mail-in process, as long as USCIS receives the I-90 application 30 days before, or 30 days after the child's 14th birthday, only the biometrics fee is paid. The I-90 application fee is waived.

This is a benefit to your 14-year-old child because they receive another 10-year green card that won't expire until their 24th birthday. At age 24, they should be able to cover the cost of the green card renewal if they have not already become a US citizen.

Please feel free to schedule a consultation if you would like to discuss this benefit for your soon-to-be 14-year-old child, or if the child reached age 14 less than 30-days ago.
